Sample Procedure

This is our evolving template for future procedure pages. Please feel free to make changes as long as you document them.

 

 

 

OPENING A FILE (Ryan and Mia)

 

1: Click on the “file” tab on the top right of the screen.

2: Select the “open” button from the dropdown bar.

3: Browse to the file you are looking for. TIP: Common file locations are My Documents, Desktop, and C:.

4: Double click on the item you wish to open to open it.

 

SAVING A FILE (Ryan and Mia)

 

1: Click on the “file” tab on the top right of the screen.

2: Select the “Save As” button from the dropdown bar.

3: Choose a format to save the file as. TIP: Web-Accessible formats include JPG, GIF, and PNG.

4: Give the file a name in the text box. Do not include the extension.

5: Press the save button.

 

IMAGE ROTATION (Doran and Nate)

 

1: Select “Image” from the top menu bar.

2: Select “Rotate” from the dropdown menu bar.

3: Choose a direction to rotate or flip the image. For example, to mirror the image, select flip horizontal from the options.

 

IMAGE RESIZING (Doran and Nate)

 

1: Select “Image” from the top menu bar.

2: Select “Resize” from the dropdown bar.

3: Choose “Image Size” from the pop-out box.

4: Enter a set of sizes, in pixels, inches, or other units of measurement to resize the image to. By checking the “Constrain Proportions” box at the bottom, proportions can be maintained. IE an image that is square in shape will maintain its straight edges.

5: When finished, press the “Ok” button at the bottom to apply your changes.

 

CANVAS MANIPULATION (Ryan and Mia)

 

1: Select “Image” from the top menu bar.

2: Select “Resize” from the dropdown bar.

3: Choose “Canvas Size” from the pop-out box.

4: Enter a set of sizes, in pixels, inches, or other units of measurement to resize the canvas to. The “Anchor Image” function allows you to set a point for the canvas to set itself around, IE if you want to resize the canvas and shrink it around the left side of the image, click the left arrow button in the anchor select box.

5: When finished, press the “Ok” button at the top right to apply your changes.

 

IMAGE TRANSFORMATION: (Christine and James)

Free Transform

 

1: Select “Image” from the top menu bar.

2: Select “Transform” from the dropdown bar.

3: Choose “Free Transform” from the pop-out box.

4: If prompted, press OK when it asks if you would like to convert your workspace to a layer. This will pop up if you are working in the”Background” layer of an image.

5: Utilizing the buttons around the edges of the layer, resize the image as you see fit.

 

ADDING TEXT (Ryan and Mia)

 

1: Click on the “T” icon in the left toolbar to select the horizontal text tool.

2: Bring your cursor to area in image where you want text to appear.

3: Left click and type in text. Note: There are many text editing options along the top of your screen directly above your image.

 

SELECTING AN IMAGE (Christine and Doran)

 

1: Right click on the lasso icon in your left sidebar. Three options will appear: lasso tool, magnetic lasso and polygonal lasso.

2: Choose which lasso too you want to use. Note: For selecting a complex image like an animal or a tree, the magnetic lasso will help you keep the shape of the image as you select it.

3: Use the lasso tool to draw a continuous line around the object. When you have connected the line you may single click to release the lasso tool.

 

MAGNIFY AN IMAGE (Christine and James)

 

1: Click on the magnifying glass icon in the left sidebar.

2: Place cursor over area in image you wish to magnify.

3: Left click to magnify the selected area.

4: To zoom out, or return to normal image view, right click and select the “zoom out” option. Note: This tool can help you to detect imperfections in your image that need to be fixed.

 

ERASE MISTAKES (Ryan and Mia)

 

1: For errors made with the brush tool or something drawn on the image, select the spot healing brush from sidebar.

2: Drag cursor over area that needs to be fixed.

3: Left click to use your cursor as an eraser to fix the mistake.

 

UNDO MISTAKES (Ryan and Mia)

 

1: Go to toolbar at the top of the screen and click "Edit".

2: Select Undo to revert image back to before the last change made. Note: this tool is only able to undo the last mistake made; anything done prior will remain unchanged.

 

USING LAYERS (Christine and James)

 

1: Select the “New” icon from the Layers box in the bottom right side of the screen to create a new layer. Note: each layer is separate from all other layers unless merged together.

2: Create as many layers as you need.

3: Make edits to each individual layer to experiment without changing your original image.

4: To bring separate layers together, select “Layer” from the top toolbar and select “merge down” to combine the current layer with the layer beneath it.

 

USING FILTERS (Doran and Nate)

 

1: Go to menu bar and select “Filter”.

2: From the drop down box, select which type of filter you would like to use. Note: examples of each filter effect can be seen in the style and editing section on the right hand side of the screen.

 

 

CHANGING COLOR USING LAYERS (Doran and Nate)

 

1: In the Layers section click the Adjustment Layer icon.

2: From the drop down bar, select they type of color change you would like to make, for example, hue/saturation.

3: In the new dialogue box, use slider to adjust the hue/saturation until desired contrast is reached.

 

RESIZE & RESHAPE BRUSH TOOL (Christine and James)

 

1: Click on the brush icon in the left sidebar.

2: From the brush toolbar directly above your image, adjust brush size, texture, color and shape.
